Giving Back :: Messages of Love

SprATX partnered with Operation Finally Home, Wilshire Homes, and Kleenex on an incredibly special project earlier this year. A beautiful home was built and donated to Nick, Shelby and their two children as a gift of thanks for their service to our country. SprATX artists, Zuzu, Liza Fishbone, and Asher Freehan added their love to the project by creating positive art and messages on the interior/exterior walls and floors throughout the house. After three days of painting, the Nelms new neighbors and loved ones walked through the house leaving messages of support and love. The house is a true work of art with the bones […]

atx FACTORY :: A New Kind of Shared Workplace

WRITTEN & PHOTOGRAPHED BY: ZUZU PERKAL It was all a dream… until it became a reality in September of this year when atx FACTORY opened it’s doors to the East Austin community. The co-working space is based on a membership system, so everyone is afforded the opportunity to really get to know one another and build lasting relationships. Since they opened a few short months ago the membership allotment is almost full. They’re crushin’ it!  There’s no denying the recent boom of co-working and co-lab spaces throughout the country, especially in Austin with it’s fast-growing culture and continuous influx of creatives and independent contractors. […]

Casual. Intense. Freedom

An Interview with Anthony Lister By: Zuzu Perkal We caught wind that street artist, Anthony Lister was spending some time in Austin, so we did what we always do. We reached out. We invited him to the SprATX shop to shoot the shit and ended up doing a mini interview and in the process learned some pretty rad things about the artist and life itself. When he rolled up to SprATX adorned in all black, unruly bleach-blonde hair, and sunglasses that made me feel like I had suddenly time-travelled into the future, I knew we were going to get along just fine and our conversation was going to […]

Bradford Maxfield :: The Spirit of Austin

Bradford Maxfield, a “conceptual artist, a multi-dimensional thinker, and an all-around fun-loving, pretty rad-ass dude. A continual learner—always striving to evolve, take risks, and try new things.”  Originally from El Paso, he states, his “heart lies in Austin. El Paso is a little piece of paradise I call my second home. ‘The armpit of Texas,’ as some refer to it, wasn’t such a bad place to grow up and is actually an incredible place for like-minded individuals interested in pursuing art. The sleepy west Texas town spawns creativity like no other and has been an inspiration for many movies, books, and songs, including […]

2016 X Games Mural House

X Games reached out to SprATX earlier this year in hopes of working together to custom build an interactive activation for the 2016 X Games in Austin. Over the course of one week SprATX fabricated a two-story mural house exhibiting 11 local and 3 visiting international artists. Much of the house was painted prior the games, while the large-scale outer walls were painted live throughout the weekend of the event. The structure was a main attraction during X Games, allowing guests to walk through and experience the mural house first-hand, take photos, interact with artists, and grab some shade from the Texas sun. The spectacle of […]

Artist Interview :: Tony “Anti” Diaz

INTERVIEW WITH :: TONY DIAZ, OWNER OF INDUSTRY PRINT SHOP  INTERVIEWED BY :: ZUZU Tony Diaz was born in January 1980 in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in love with music and fed his obsession with lessons, playing in bands, and listening to records. As he grew older he started to participate in the punk rock scene, enjoying the D.I.Y. aesthetic and the attitude. This new perspective fueled his creative drive leading to his move to Austin, TX, and forming a record label that he would ultimately use to begin his visual art career. The label required design work, and Tony drew on his past making cut […]
